August 4, 2008, Governor Deval Patrick signed legislation authorizing
$40 million in bond funding to stimulate the availability of broadband
in un-served regions of the Commonwealth, in partnership with the private
sector. Commissioner Gillett will explain the motivation for this legislation
and the mechanisms it establishes to improve broadband infrastructure
in Massachusetts, particularly in the less densely populated regions of
the state. She will also give an overview of the regulatory and consumer
outreach work done by the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications
and Cable.
